人類自四足趴立演化成為兩足站立的動物以來，騰出萬能的雙手造就了人類文明，卻也因此忍受了脊椎直立所伴隨而來的種種病痛。
脊椎所產生的臨床問題與病痛，並非僅止於我們耳熟能詳的肩頸痠痛，或是坐骨神經痛，還包括有先天性、退化性、代謝性、腫瘤性……的疾患，可以說是多到不勝枚舉！然而，要精通所有與脊椎有相關的疾病，是一項非常困難而艱鉅的任務。復健醫學快速參考(Rehabilitation Medicine Quick Reference [RMQR])系列叢書的第一部書—「脊椎」，為這一困境提供了很好的解決途徑。它的設計理念相當新穎，將臨床上脊椎的、和與脊椎相仿的疾患，依照英文字母的順序編輯成100個章節，每個章節都只有兩頁，都以固定的格式，對每個疾患做簡單扼要的、針對臨床實務的、多個專科視野的描述，讓臨床工作者能夠在有限而又匆忙的時間裡，很快地找到他所需要的醫療資訊，以做出迅速而又正確的醫療處置。
本人深為這一叢書的設計理念，與其精確的內容所吸引，因此花費時日努力將其內容翻譯為中文，希望能對從事與脊椎病況有相關的臨床工作者，不管是臨床醫師、物理治療師、職能治療師、護理師…，都能夠提供迅速而又有效的幫助。當然，醫學名詞的中文翻譯，尚有很多彼此不一致的差異存在，雖已竭盡心力避免疏漏發生，仍不敢確保沒有錯誤發生，還要請各位醫學先進與讀者朋友們能夠不吝給予批評指教。
